Enter functional expenses using percentages for Form 990, Part IX

Follow these steps to enter expenses on a functional basis using percentages for Form 990, Part IX. These steps apply only to client entity type 990E (exempt organization).
These steps use an example of other salaries and wages.
  1. Open the client.
  2. Select the
    Income & Deductions
    folder, then
    Exp
    or
    Exp-2
    .
  3. Open the statement for the indirect expense.

    For example, open the
    Other salaries and wages
    statement, then either enter all salaries and wages as a total amount, or list them separately.
  4. For
    Mgmt & General Percentage
    in this statement, enter the percentage of the expense that should be allocated to Management and General.
    note
    The application multiplies this percentage by the salary or wage amount entered and displays this amount in the Management & General column. It then displays the balance of the expense amount in the Program Services column.
  5. For
    Fundraising Percentage
    in this statement, enter the percentage of the expense that should be allocated to Fundraising.
    note
    • The application multiplies this percentage by the salary or wage amount entered and displays the amount in the Fundraising column.
    • It displays the balance of the expense amount in the Program Services column.
    • It also defaults to allocating 100% of expense to Program Services.
    • The application limits the last column with an expense amount if percentages entered are greater than 100%.
  6. Select
    OK
    to close the statement.
The application displays the expense amounts allocated on a functional basis on the screen.
