Restore a backed-up client not found on source

Try the following when restoring from a backed-up client and the application doesn't find the file.
  • Verify the media where the client is backed up isn't on a CD-ROM. If it is, you'll need to copy the backed-up client to your local drive, change the permissions on the folder so it's not read-only, and restore it from there. Generally, when you burn data to a CD-Rom, there are many instances where the permissions to the data are read-only.
  • If you're trying to restore from a USB flash drive or a local drive and it doesn't find the client, make sure you're not selecting the client-specific folder when changing the backup location. For example, if you backed up a client to a folder named Backup on your C drive, only select the C:\Backup folder when changing the backup location within the restore window. Don't select the specific client folder under the Backup folder. If the client still isn't found, try moving the backup to the local drive and verify the permissions as in the 1st step.
  • If it's an UltraTax CS client, verify the client you're trying to restore is for the correct year of UltraTax CS.
  • Try restoring the backed-up client data on a different computer.
