Troubleshoot receiving e-file acknowledgments

You should receive federal acknowledgments from the IRS within 24 to 48 hours from when you transmit the return via CS Connect. Extra processing time may happen around deadlines. UltraTax CS will automatically re-send e-file acknowledgments when there has been no activity for over 24 hours. If the client status in the Electronic Filing Status screen indicates that the e-file is transmitted to CS or transmitted to the taxing agency after 48 hours, refer to these troubleshooting steps.

IRS acknowledgments

  • Retrieve acknowledgements via CS Connect
    .
    • Select the CS Connect button in the UltraTax CS toolbar.
    • In the
      Option
      tab, select the
      Electronic filing: Retrieve acknowledgements
      switch to set it to
      Yes
      , then select the
      Connect
      button.
  • Verify that the client's TIN or client ID has not changed since the return was transmitted.
    • If it has changed, change the client's TIN or client ID back to the original information from when it was transmitted and retrieve acknowledgments again via CS Connect.
  • Contact the IRS at 866-255-0654 or the state tax agency
    .
    • Contact information for the state taxing agencies can be found in the State Electronic Filing Guide.
    • Occasionally there are delays by the taxing agencies issuing acknowledgments. Also, electronic files are processed in batches, which can cause some e-files to be acknowledged quicker than others.
  • Chat with Triva, the Thomson Reuters Intelligent Virtual Assistant, to verify the status. Triva will need this information:
    • Your name
    • Your firm ID
    • Your email address
    • Which year's version of UltraTax CS you're using
    • Client IDs
    • Whether you're checking on the status of a federal acknowledgment, state acknowledgment, or both.
  • If you used a third-party application vendor to transmit the electronic returns
    , contact your vendor directly.

BSA e-filing system acknowledgments

If the electronic file is a FinCEN Form 114 (FBAR) return, you'll get an acknowledgment from the BSA E-Filing System. The BSA E-Filing System processes FinCEN Form 114 electronic files and transmits acknowledgments to Thomson Reuters within 1 business day, per the FBAR Electronic Filing Technical Overview, pages 24 and 26. The acknowledgments are then available for download via CS Connect.
