Sign 1120 or 990 e-file using the Practitioner PIN option

There are 2 options for signing an 1120 or 990 e-file:
Practitioner PIN
or
Scanned Form 8453
. Do the following to sign using the Practitioner PIN option.
  1. Go to the
    Electronic Filing
    folder and complete the
    Signature date
    field on the
    ELF
screen. For 1120 returns, this should be the date Form 8879-C, 8879-S, or 8879-I will be signed by the officer of the Corporation. For 990 returns, this should be the date Form 8879-EO will be signed by the officer of the Organization.
  2. Enter 5 numbers in the
    ERO PIN
field. You can enter any 5 digits other than 00000. The actual ERO PIN is an 11-digit number, of which the first 6 digits are your IRS supplied EFIN and the last 5 digits consist of the self-selected numbers entered on the
    ELF
    screen.
  3. Have the client complete the
    Taxpayer PIN
field, which is a self-selected set of 5 numbers other than 00000.
    note
As the Electronic Return Originator (ERO), you can enter this PIN if you have the taxpayer's written signature on Form 8879-C, 8879-S, 8879-I, or 8879-EO, IRS e-file Signature Authorization Form, which will print with the return if you elect to use the PIN. Don’t mail this form to the IRS unless requested to do so, but keep it with your records.
