Change the salutation for Client Organizer cover letters

The Client Organizer automatically begins each letter with “Dear” then the client’s first name, exactly as it displays in the client’s 1040 screen. If you want to use the client’s last name or a different version of their name in the salutation, follow these steps.
  1. Select
    File
    , then
    Open Client
    , and select the client.
  2. Select
    View
    , then
    Client Organizer
    to open the organizer input screens.
  3. Select the
    General
    folder.
  4. Select the
    1040
    tab.
  5. Go to the
    Personal Information
    section.
  6. Enter a salutation (don't include
    Dear
    ) in the
    Cover letter salutation
    field.
    note
    • Any changes you make to the Organizer's salutation will also apply to the tax salutation.
    • If you want the cover letter to go to the address listed under personal representative information on the Info screen, you should enter the personal representative's name in the
      Cover Letter Salutation
      field. The application automatically uses this personal representative information when the filing status is anything other than married filing jointly and a date of death is entered in the taxpayer's 1040 screen.
