Troubleshoot CS Connect update failure

Follow these steps to troubleshoot if CS Connect fails to apply updates in Accounting CS, Workpapers CS, or Practice CS. Following these steps won't affect your data.

Work with the main installation

  1. Go to
    X:\WinCSI\Accounting CS
    or
    X:\WinCSI\Practice CS
    (replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
  2. Right-click the
    CCUPDLOG
    file and select
    Open
    or
    Open with
    , then
    Notepad
    .
  3. In Notepad, check the file for a recently dated entry that includes
    Error Applying Old File
    .
    • If you find an entry that includes
      Error Applying Old File
      , follow these steps. This will uninstall the Accounting CS shared files and the Accounting CS application, or the Practice CS shared files and Practice CS from the server.
      1. On your computer, select
        Start
        ,
        Control Panel
        ,
        Programs
        , then
        Uninstall or change a program
        .
      2. Right-click
        Accounting CS
        or
        Practice CS
        , then
        Uninstall
        . Repeat for the Accounting CS shared files or Practice CS shared files.
      3. Reinstall Accounting CS or Practice CS using the latest version you downloaded previously.
      4. After installation, apply the CS Connect updates.
    • If you don't find an entry that includes
      Error Applying Old File
      , follow these steps.
      1. Go to
        X:\WinCSI\Accounting CS\updates or X:\WinCSI\Practice CS\updates
        (replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
      2. Delete everything in the updates folder.
      3. Open Accounting CS or Practice CS, then download and apply the CS Connect updates again.
Manually apply updates
  1. Make sure that all users have Accounting CS or Practice CS closed.
  2. On your computer, select
    Start
    then search for
    Command Prompt
    .
  3. Go to
    X:\WinCSI\Accounting CS
    or
    X:\WinCSI\Practice CS
    (replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
  4. Select and drag the
    CSIUPD.EXE
    file into the
    Command Prompt
    window.
  5. Use
    Space
    , enter
    update
    , then
    Enter
    . The CS Connect updates window will display and apply updates.
Reinstall the application
If the previous steps didn't work, follow these steps to uninstall the Accounting CS shared files or Practice CS shared files and the Accounting CS or Practice CS application from the server.
  1. Select
    Start
    ,
    Control Panel
    ,
    Programs
    , then
    Uninstall or change a program
    .
  2. Right-click
    Accounting CS
    or
    Practice CS
    , then
    Uninstall
    . Repeat for the Accounting CS shared files or Practice CS shared files.
  3. Go to
    X:\WinCSI
    (replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
  4. Rename the
    Accounting CS
    and
    Accounting CS Data
    folders to
    AccountingCS.OLD
    and
    Accounting CS Data.OLD
    . Rename the
    Practice CS
    and
    Practice CS Data
    folders to
    Practice CS.OLD
    and
    Practice CS Data.OLD
    .
  5. Reinstall Accounting CS or Practice CS using the latest version you downloaded previously.
  6. After installation, apply the CS Connect updates.
You don't need to reinstall the application on every computer after the updates successfully apply on the server. Accounting CS or Practice CS will automatically apply the updates when opened.

Specific computers not applying updates

If a specific computer isn't applying updates or is showing an error message, follow these steps to reinstall Accounting CS or Practice CS.
  1. On the computer that isn't applying updates, select
    Start
    ,
    Control Panel
    ,
    Programs
    , then
    Uninstall or change a program
    .
  2. Right-click
    Accounting CS
    or
    Practice CS
    , then
    Uninstall
    .
  3. Go to
    X:\WinCSI\Accounting CS\DESKTOP
    or
    X:\WinCSI\Practice CS\DESKTOP
    (replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
  4. Run the
    Setup.exe
    file.
