Delete account segments and account codes

You can delete account segments and account codes but there are some restrictions. The following are rules for deleting segments and codes:
  • If there is any activity and/or historical data for an account, you can't delete that account.
  • If an account segment is being used for any account, you can't delete the segment.
  • If a segment code is being used for any account, you can't delete the code.
  • All accounts in the client's chart of accounts need to match the mask. If you change the mask, you'll need to make the same changes to the accounts.
Deleting an account segment is a multi-step process. You'll need to do the following for a successful deletion:
  1. Delete the accounts containing the segments or codes you want to delete. To delete accounts:
  2. Select
    Setup
    then
    Chart of Accounts
    .
  3. Select the account and then select
    Delete
    .
  4. Delete the account segment from the mask:
  5. Select
    Setup
    then
    Clients
    .
  6. Go to the Account Mask tab then select
    Edit
    .
  7. Go to the segment you want to delete and select delete
  8. Select
    Enter
    to save the client record.
  9. Delete the account segments and codes:
  10. Select
    Setup
    then
    Account Segments
    .
  11. To delete an account segment, choose the account segment, select delete then select
    Enter
    to save your changes.
  12. To delete a segment code, choose the code, select delete then select
    Enter
    to save your changes.
