Read-only mode in a workpaper

A workpaper might open in read-only mode for the following reasons:
  • The workpaper has a status of
    Checked out
    on the Workpapers Dashboard.
The Engagement Binders Tree and Workpapers List portlets show a status of
    Checked out by <Staff ID>
for workpapers that are currently open. The workpaper becomes available to all staff when the workpaper is closed and the status changes to
    Available
    .
  • The workpaper has a status of
    Disconnected
    on the Workpapers Dashboard.
When a workpaper with a status of
    Disconnected
has been removed from the database and taken into the field can be viewed by in-office staff, but not modified until the workpapers have been returned to the binder.
  • The workpaper has a status of
    Protected
    on the Workpapers Dashboard.
Staff members who have completed work on a workpaper can mark a workpaper with a status of
    Protected
. These workpapers can be opened to view them, but may not be modified until the status is changed to
    Unprotected
    .
  • The Engagement Binder has a status of
    Finalized
    .
When engagement work is completed, you or another staff member can
    Finalize
the binder. This process changes the status of all of the workpapers to
    Protected
. Before you can make changes to a protected workpaper in a finalized Engagement Binder, you need to Unfinalize the Engagement Binder.
  • The Workpapers CS add-in for Microsoft Office is disabled.
If the Workpapers CS add-in ribbon is disabled or malfunctioning when you open a Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel workpaper from with the engagement binder, the workpaper may have been open as read-only.
  • The workpaper is a Checkpoint Tools for PPC document.
You need the Checkpoint Tools for PPC framework installed on your machine to modify Checkpoint Tools documents. The Checkpoint Tools for PPC addins needs to be active in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for the documents to be modified as well.
