Roll forward an engagement binder

The Roll Forward process can take place any time during the engagement process, but is usually performed after work in the engagement binder has been finalized, or is close to completion. The existing engagement binder is used as a template to create the next engagement binder.
  1. Do 1 of the following to start the roll forward process.
    • In the Workpapers Dashboard, select Roll Forward in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet.
    • In the Workpapers Dashboard, right-click the engagement binder name and select
      Roll Forward...
    • In the Engagement Binders screen, select
      Roll Forward
      .
  2. Give the new engagement binder a name and period ending date and then select
    Next >
. The rest of the fields on this screen are optional.
  3. In the Workpaper Settings, make a selection in the
    Roll Forward Setting
column for each workpaper and then select
    Next >
    .
  4. Confirm the workpapers to roll forward and include in the new engagement binder, and change any workpaper references and names as needed.
  5. Select
    Finish
    .
The application executes the roll forward, and then displays a diagnostic report. The report indicates if the roll forward was successful, and lists all workpapers that were included, excluded, replaced, and renamed. You can use the
Print
option to keep a copy of the report.
A new engagement is made for the new period using the structure of the original engagement binder (no changes are made to the original).
Workpaper signoffs, history, and notes are not carried into the new engagement binder. Workpaper assignments are carried into the new binder only if you marked the
Retain workpaper assignments
option.
Links in Excel and Word workpapers are updated to reflect balances based on the current engagement period end date. For example, if there is an Excel workpaper that displays 2022 and 2023 data, after rolling forward the engagement binder to 2024, the state will now display 2024 and 2023 data.
