About the Knowledge Map tool

Find out how this visual search tool can help you to quickly explore, preview, save, and download Practical Law content.

Why use the Knowledge Map?

Knowledge Map is an interactive, visual tool that reveals layers of Practical Law content to support your research. Make connections that weren't initially obvious. Quickly shift the focus of your search, and preview documents to evaluate their relevance.

Map view and controls

Practical Law plots your selected resource at the centre of the Knowledge Map. Around the centre, there's a ring chart divided into segments, which show different types of related resources.
Change your view with the zoom controls, drag any part of the map to change the starting point of your view, and select any resource to show more related resources.

Expand the map in any direction

When you select a resource on the map, Practical Law responds with the following actions:
  • It moves the map to make the selected resource appear at the centre of your view.
  • It refreshes the ring charts to show resources related to your new selection.
  • It shows the contents of the selected resource in the Preview pane.

Preview and deliver resources

In the Preview pane, choose from delivery and save options for the currently selected resource. Alternatively, use
resources previewed
to apply delivery and save options to multiple resources.

Restart your Knowledge Map

Use the Search bar to change the document at the centre of your Knowledge Map.
