You'll need to be registered as a batch filer and have downloaded the batch filer software. For more information, read our help topic: Get started with Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).
Create EFTPS enrollment files
Use the following procedure to create and transmit an EFTPS enrollment file to import into your EFTPS batch file transmission software.
Select
Actions

Enroll
, then
EFTPS
.
Select
Setup
.
Enter your 9-digit batch filer ID and your firm's 4-digit master inquiry PIN
Select
OK
.
note
The IRS would have given you a batch filer ID after you registered as a batch filer. You'll only need to enter your ID and PIN once.
Select
Add Clients
.
note
The grid displays any clients who have not yet been enrolled to use EFTPS. They will not have a taxpayer PIN entered in the
Main
tab of the Vendors screen.
Take the following steps if a client is missing from the list:
Select
Setup
, then
Clients.
On the
Payroll Taxes
tab, clear the
Do not create liabilities
checkbox.
note
If the
Do not create liabilities
checkbox is marked, the client will not be in the in the list when you choose either
Add Clients
or
Terminate Clients.
Mark the checkboxes next to the appropriate client record(s).
Select the bank account, then
Create Files
.
note
A single enrollment file is created for all selected client records.
Enrollment files are stored in the file location specified.
To change the location, select
Setup
,
File Locations
, then the
File Creation
tab.
The Bank Account field will not be available if the
Batch Filer Account
checkbox is marked, which means the client is set up for impound.
Once you have created enrollment files, use your EFTPS batch file transmission software to transmit them.
After you get the enrollment confirmation for the client(s), select
Setup
, then
Vendors
.
Select the federal tax agent(s).
In the Payment Preferences section on the
Main
tab, select EFTPS as the payment method in the
Method
field
Enter the clients' taxpayer PIN in the
Taxpayer PIN
field.

The client's taxpayer PIN is provided by the IRS once the client is enrolled in EFTPS. This PIN will print on the EFTPS Phone Payment Worksheet and EFTPS Payment Worksheet. For information about enrolling in EFTPS and creating batch files, read our help topic: Getting started with EFTPS.
Reduce federal liability by COBRA credit (optional)
Select
Actions
, then
Edit Payrol Tax Forms

Select
Reconciliatio
n as the filter
Mark the checkbox(es) for
Frequency
as appropriate.
Enter the COBRA credit amount on the
COBRA premium assistance payments
line of Form 941, Form 943, or Form 944.
Select Process Client Forms, or select

checkbox, then select Process Adjustments.

Create EFTPS payment files
You're ready to create your EFTPS payment file after you've done the following:
Successfully sent your enrollment file.
Received verification by mail.
Changed the payment method to EFTPS and entered the clients' taxpayer PIN in the Main tab of the Vendors screen for the appropriate vendors.
Select
File
, then
Print Checks
.
On the
Liabilities tab
, print the liabilities.
Select
Actions
, then
Process EFTPS
.
note
All files awaiting EFTPS file creation are listed in the grid.
Mark the checkbox(es) for the transactions to be included in the EFTPS payment file.
note
You will create a single payment file for all selected transactions. To create payment files for individual clients, mark only checkboxes for a single client before you create the EFTPS file.
Select
Create Files
.
note
Payment files are stored in the file location specified at the bottom of the screen.
If you want to change the file location, take the following steps:
Select
Setup
, then
File Locations
.
On the
File Creation
tab, change the EFTPS file creation path.
You can use
Manage Files
to preview or recreate the file.
Once you've created payment files, use your EFTPS batch file transmission software to transmit them.
