Skill workflows

Learn to use CoCounsel to complete workflows that reuse sources of information, that use prior results to complete new tasks, or that refine prior results.

Reuse a source of information

Use this workflow to complete various tasks with the same source of information without reuploading. In this way, you are looking at the same information from the perspective of different skills.
Examples:
  • Use the same files with any other Summarize or Review skill.
  • Use the same skill multiple times with different parameters:
    • Use Summarize, but request a different length summary.
    • Use Review skills with new questions, new details to identify, or new data to extract.
    • Use Search a Database to research the same database with different question.
  • Research the same issue with AI-Assisted Research and Ask Practical Law AI.

Use prior results to complete new tasks

Use this workflow when prior results will help with completing new tasks. This can be thought of as "stacking" skills.
Examples:
  • Use Research, Review, or Summarize skills. Then ask CoCounsel to use Draft Correspondence to draft a memo based on the results from prior skills.
  • Use Research, Review, or Summarize skills. Then ask CoCounsel to use Prepare for a Deposition to draft questions and topics based on the results from prior skills.
  • Use a Summarize skill. Then, based on the results, use a Review skill to ask specific follow-up questions about the same files.
  • Use a Summarize or Review skill or Search a Database. Then ask CoCounsel to use those results to inform a request for AI-Assisted Research or Ask Practical Law AI.
  • Use Prepare for a Deposition to draft topics and questions. Then, ask CoCounsel to help you determine how a deponent might avoid answering the questions. Then follow-up again by asking CoCounsel to suggest how you might address these attempted evasions.
For example, here we used AI-Assisted Research to understand whether a Colorado employer will be liable for discrimination in a certain scenario, and we also used Summarize to understand the contents of a memo to HR with relevant details about the case. We reviewed and verified the results from both skills. Now we want CoCounsel to use the results from these prior skills to draft a letter to our client, the employer, explaining any legal exposure.

Refine prior results

Use this workflow to refine prior results without starting over at the beginning.
Examples:
  • After reviewing Draft Correspondence results, ask for edits, like a change of tone, length, style, content, or formatting.
  • After reviewing Prepare for a Deposition results, request additional topics and questions in the chat or focus the topics and questions on a narrower issues or key details.
  • After reviewing AI-Assisted Research and Ask Practical Law AI results, ask up to 5 follow-up questions to refine the results. You may expand or narrow the jurisdiction, date range, or focus on different facts or legal issues.
