Add Fixed Assets CS data locations

If your firm has multiple branches that share the same installation of Fixed Assets CS, you can add data locations so that data can be stored separately for each branch. In addition to allowing each branch its own data location, this also allows firms to maintain their own configurable items. We recommend that you set up a data location for each branch so that each branch can maintain its own separate configurable items, such as asset labels, custom methods, custom reports, and state calculations.
note
Although it's not typical, a single branch can add multiple data locations. For example, a branch may want to add a separate data location for each preparer.
  1. Select
    Setup
    then
    System Configuration
    .
    note
Depending on your security configuration, you might need to enter the master password before you can open the System Configuration window.
  2. Go to the Data Locations tab.
  3. Select
    Add Data Location
    .
  4. In the Add Data Location window, select
    Enter Path
    next to the
Enter the path of the Fixed Assets CS data location
    field.
  5. In the Modify Location window, go to the folder you want to store the Fixed Assets CS client data in.
  6. Select
    OK
    .
  7. Go to
Enter the path of the FileCabinet CS data location
    and select the appropriate path.
  8. Go to
Enter an alias for this collection of data locations
and enter a description for this data path (or group of data paths).
  9. Select
    OK
to close the Add Data Location window.
  10. If this data location should have the same asset labels, custom methods, custom reports, and customized state calculations as another data location, select
    Transfer Configurable Files
to add these items to the new data location.
  11. Select
    OK
to close the System Configuration window.
note
When Fixed Assets CS is installed on a network, it's unusual for a data path to point to a location on a local hard drive. If you add a data path that's on your local hard drive, Fixed Assets CS prompts you to confirm the location.
