Restore client data

You can restore client data from removable media, from a backup location on the hard drive, or from FileCabinet CS (if licensed) to the active location on the hard drive. You can restore data for 1 client at a time or for multiple clients at once (you can only restore 1 client at a time from FileCabinet CS). When you restore data for a client, the client's current-year data is restored.
Follow these steps to restore client data.
  1. If the client data is archived on removable media, insert the removable media into your computer.
  2. Select
    File
    , then
    Restore
    .
  3. Fixed Assets CS defaults to looking for client data in Windows format on the C drive. If the client data you want to restore is in FileCabinet CS, the
    Clients Not Found
window will appear. In this case, select the
    FileCabinet CS
    option, then
    Continue
    to open the
    Restore
window. From here, you can select the client data you want to restore from FileCabinet CS. Notice if the
Clients with backups in FileCabinet CS
checkbox is already marked. This checkbox is available only if you're licensed for FileCabinet CS and you selected
    Clients
from the dropdown in the Restore window.
  4. Verify that the correct data location displays in the
    Data location
field. This field is available only if your firm has set up multiple data locations.
  5. Verify that
    Clients
    is selected in the
    Clients
    ,
    Custom Methods
    ,
    Custom Reports
    , or
    System Settings
    field.
  6. All clients who meet the criteria designated in the Focus client listing section will display in the Available pane. Select the client whose data you want to restore, then
    Select
. The clients you selected move to the Selected pane. To remove a client from the restore list, select the client in the Selected pane, then
    Remove
    .
  7. Select
    Restore
    , or
    Continue
if you're restoring from FileCabinet CS.
  8. If you're restoring from FileCabinet CS, mark the checkbox of the version you want to restore, then select
    Restore
    .
  9. If the client already exists on the destination drive, Fixed Assets CS asks if you want to replace the existing client data. Select the option for your response.
  10. After the restore is complete, select
    Done
    .
    tip
    • Select
      Client ID
      ,
      Name
      , or
      Entity
in the title bar of either list pane to sort the list by that characteristic.
    • Use the Focus listing section to limit the clients who appear in the client listing by entity type.
    • If you're searching several CDs for a client's backup data, follow the previous procedure for the 1st CD. If the client's data isn't on that CD, insert the 2nd CD and select
      Refresh
. Fixed Assets CS checks the 2nd CD for clients to restore and rebuilds the client list accordingly.
    • When you mark the
Clients with backups in FileCabinet CS
checkbox, all other fields in the Focus listing and Backup data sections aren't available since they don't apply for this process.
    • If you're restoring a FileCabinet CS backup, use the
      FileCabinet CS
dropdown to specify the location of the FileCabinet CS backup data.
