Troubleshoot user-specific issues

Use the following steps to help troubleshoot user-specific issues with Fixed Assets CS.

Run Desktop Setup as administrator

  1. Go to
    X:\WinCSI\DSW\Desktop
    , where
    X
    represents the drive where Fixed Assets CS is installed.
  2. Right-click
    setup.exe
    and select
    Run as administrator
    .

Fixed Assets CS user profile

Follow these steps to troubleshoot a Fixed Assets CS user profile.
  1. Go to
    X:\WinCSI\DeprSys
    , where
    X
    represents the drive where Fixed Assets CS is installed.
  2. Rename the file
    DCONTROL.[user]
    , where
    [user]
    represents the Windows login ID. This is the user preference file or user control file.
  3. Open the application.
  4. If you can't open the application, rename the user preference file back to the original file name and continue troubleshooting.

Clear a user's Temp directory

Follow these steps to clear a user's Temp directory.
  1. Close all applications.
  2. Open the computer's Start menu.
  3. Enter
    %temp%
    in Search programs and files and select
    Open
    .
  4. Select all the items in the directory, then use the Delete key. Select
    Yes
    to delete multiple items.

    If a File In Use or Folder In Use window displays, mark the
    Do this for all current items
    checkbox and select
    Skip
    .
  5. Open the application. If it still won't open, continue troubleshooting.

Permissions

If you can open Fixed Assets CS from a workstation while logged in as a local administrator or domain administrator but not as a user, there's a permissions issue for the user.
