Next-generation dashboard editor

The next generation dashboards in Tracker use Power BI technology from Microsoft. Power BI is a business analytics service that provides interactive visualizations and business intelligence capabilities in a simple user interface. When the next-generation dashboard editor is enabled in Tracker, users can quickly and easily create their own dashboards and data visualizations. For example, the same metric could be visualized as a bar chart or as a pie-chart.
The ability to manage dashboards is available to all Company System Administrators and Tracker coordinators. Additional users can be granted access on an individual basis.
Tip | To help you become familiar with the dashboards and how they work, a working sample dashboard is available for all users with view or edit access.

Using the Dashboards Page

The Dashboard Panels
Use the
Visualizations
and
Fields
panels to add and edit visualizations.
  • The
    Visualizations
    panel lets you add a visualization of a specific type to the dashboard. Click an icon in the panel to add a visualization. The visualization you choose depends on the kind of information you want to display, and some visualizations are better suited to some kinds of data than others. For example, a map implies that you will set up a visualization showing statistics for a geographical entity, such as matter country or billing country.
  • The
    Fields
    panel lets you add fields to the visualization you selected.
Select Fields for the Visualization
With the visualization selected in the main panel to the left, use the options in the
Fields
panel to the right to add data to the chart. You can type a phrase in the Search box to find a particular field.
Example 1
Selecting the
Map
visualization (1) adds a blank map to the dashboard.(2) Adding a field,
Billing Country
(3), populates the map with data about the billing countries (4).
Example 2
In this example, the visualization type is pie chart.
Typing a phrase in the
Search
box quickly locates the
Opened Matters
field.
However, since
Opened Matters
is 100% of this particular pie, this chart is not very useful. Adding
Fee Arrangement Name
results in a chart that shows alternate fee arrangements in proportion to the total number of open matters.
Creating a Next-Generation dashboard
To create a next-generation dashboard:
  1. Select
    Home > Dashboard Manager
    from the left navigation.
  2. On the toolbar, select
    Create Dashboard
    .
  3. Use the
    Dashboard Type
    drop-down list to specify whether the dashboard is personal, company-wide, or a persona-based dashboard.
  4. In the
    Dashboard Title
    field, specify a name for the dashboard (50-character limit).
  5. In the
    Dashboard Description
    field, enter a short description to help identify the dashboard. (Optional).
  6. Click the
    Create
    button to open the dashboard editor.
  7. A new panel opens that you can use to customize the visualizations for your dashboard:
    • Use the
      Fields
      pane to select the fields to include in your dashboard.
    • Use the
      Visualizations
      pane to define the visualizations you want to include.
    • You can drag and drop fields onto the
      Filters
      pane to apply filters. Filters can be applied for visualizations, individual pages and all pages.

  8. On the toolbar, select
    Save & close
    .
Viewing a Next-Generation dashboard
  1. Select
    Home > Dashboard Manager
    in the left navigation.
  2. Scroll through the list of available dashboards and click the title of the dashboard you want to open and select the hyperlinked name.
Editing a Next-Generation dashboard
To edit a next-generation dashboard:
  1. Open the Dashboard Manager (
    Home > Dashboard Manager
    in the left navigation).
  2. Click the title of a dashboard to open it.
  3. Select the edit icon next to the dashboard you want to edit.
Setting a Next-Generation Dashboard as Your Home Page
Only one next-generation dashboard can be selected as your home page. However, dashboards can have many visualizations and multiple pages. Multi-page dashboards are supported, and you can navigate between the pages.
  1. Open the Dashboard Manager (
    Home > Dashboard Manager
    in the left navigation).
  2. In the
    Actions
    column, select the star icon to the far right of the dashboard you want to use as your home page.
Sharing a Dashboard
To share a next-generation dashboard:
  1. Open the Dashboard Manager (
    Home > Dashboard Manager
    in the left navigation).
  2. Select the share icon to the far right of the dashboard you want to share.
  3. A list of users appears, along with some fields to help you quickly find specific users. The fields are optional.
    Field
    Description
    Shared
    • All – Shows a list of all users. This is the default setting.
    • Only Shared – Returns a list of users with whom this dashboard has already been shared.
    • Only Unshared – Returns a list of users who have not been granted access to the dashboard.
    Name
    You can use this field to narrow your search to a specific user or users. Type a user's name in this field to help you locate the user using their name.
    Email
    Type an email in this field to help you locate the user using their email address.
    Office
    Type an email in this field to help you locate the user using their office.
    Participant tags
    Use the dropdown to find users by participant tag.
    Locate the user or users in the list and check the checkbox next to the names of users with whom you want to share this dashboard.
  4. Click
    Save
    . The dashboard will appear on the user's dashboard manager screen.
To stop sharing a dashboard:
  1. Select the share icon to the far right of the dashboard you want to stop sharing, or select
    Share
    from the toolbar.
  2. In the list of names that appears, clear the checkbox next to the names of the users that want to stop sharing the dashboard with.
  3. Select
    Save
    .
  4. When prompted, click
    OK
    to verify that you want to stop sharing this dashboard.
Removing a Next-Generation Dashboard
  1. Open the Dashboard Manager (
    Home > Dashboard Manager
    in the left navigation).
  2. Click the title of a dashboard to open it.
  3. Select the delete icon next to the dashboard you want to remove.
Exporting a Dashboard
You can export your data visualizations from next-generation Power BI dashboards, including the firm scorecard, and use them for reporting and presentations. Exported dashboards can be saved to .pdf or PowerPoint formats, and you can choose how you want to receive the exported information. You can also print dashboards.
  1. On the toolbar, select
    Export
    . A panel opens that provides options for exporting the dashboard.
  2. Select the output format.
    • PowerPoint: Each page of the dashboard will be presented in its own slide in PowerPoint.
    • PDF
      : The dashboard will be exported as a .pdf file.
  3. Use the dropdown to select the pages to export. The default is
    All
    .
  4. Next to
    Delivery Method
    , check a checkbox to specify how you want to receive or distribute the exported dashboard.

Demo Dashboards

The demo dashboard is a working template dashboard that lets you see how the controls are used to present different views of data. By default, this dashboard is in the
Preconfigured
section and is named
Demo template
.
To become familiar with the dashboards and how they work, you can edit the sample dashboard, or even delete it. However, if you delete the demo dashboard you can only recover it by re-creating it.
Average Rate by Years of Experience
This dashboard displays average rates by years of experience for each law firm, filtered by partners and associations. Each color is unique to a law firm.
