The LEDES Oversight Committee revised some expense codes in 2013. The newer UTBMS “X” expense code set has additional breakouts, such as copying and postage, and categories, such as e-discovery related expenses. However, be aware that some firms may object if you choose the “X” codes as opposed to “E” codes.
Tracker clients can consider asking firms to use only one code set for consistency in reporting, or they can receive audits on either code sets. Some Tracker clients force firms to use a particular code set by automatically rejecting invoices that use the wrong code set. You can download a list of the revised codes from https://utbms.com/loc-revised-expense-codes/.
