Add or Edit Invoice Descriptions and Comments

The topics below describe how to add or edit invoice descriptions and comments for LEDES and non-LEDES formatted invoices, and how to view comments provided by law firm users.

Add or Edit Comments in LEDES-Formatted Invoices

There are two ways to provide comments with a LEDES-formatted invoice in Tracker:
  • Use your time and billing system to add a comment in the INVOICE DESCRIPTION field of the LEDES file. This method is recommended because it lets you enter detailed comments (the field can be as large as 15KB) without editing the posted invoice. Tracker does not provide support for time and billing systems, so law firm users should contact their time and billing vendor if they need help using this field.
  • Add a comment by editing the invoice profile of the posted invoice.
To add or edit a comment by editing the invoice profile for a posted LEDES-formatted invoice:
  1. Click
    Billing
    in the left navigation.
  2. Click
    View invoices
    . You may need to complete this step if
    Accruals
    displays because unbilled amounts are due.
  3. Click the invoice you want to add comments to.
  4. Click
    Edit / move
    in the toolbar.
  5. Enter your comment in the
    Description/Comments
    field.
  6. Click
    Save & close
    in the toolbar.

Add or Edit Comments in a Non-LEDES-Formatted Invoices

You can add or edit a comment or description when you post a non-LEDES-formatted invoice.
To add a comment to a non-LEDES-formatted invoice during posting:
  1. On the New invoice page, enter your comments in the
    Description/Comments
    field. This field is under the
    INVOICE HEADER INFORMATION
    collapsible section.
  2. Click
    Post & close
    in the toolbar.

View Comments Provided by a Law Firm User

Regardless of whether the invoice is a LEDES-formatted invoice, the comments provided by the law firm or vendor posting the invoice are available in the
Comments
field under
Profile
for the invoice. To view the comments, click
Show comments
.

Can I Provide a Comment or Explanation in the Invoice in Response to a Company Question?

Tracker does not provide a method for creating a conversation between the law firm and company users after the invoice is posted. After the invoice is fully approved or rejected, firm users can see company comments by clicking
Show comments
under
Profile
for the invoice.
