About Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to protect your firm's confidential data. Many of your online accounts or software applications currently rely on a login and password. That password is the single factor in the authentication process, confirming your identity.Multi-factor authentication strengthens your protection against hacking and fraud by adding at least one more layer of identity verification. This additional layer can be a physical ID card, a digital confirmation code, or even your fingerprint. You already use multi-factor authentication when you pay with a debit card or withdraw cash from an ATM. In these cases, your debit card is one factor and your PIN is another.
Thomson Reuters offers multi-factor authentication through the Thomson Reuters Authenticator app. After you install the app on your smartphone and pair it with your login credentials, you will use it to confirm your identity each time you log in to the Thomson Reuters RS system. You will receive a notification on the Authenticator app, which you can quickly approve on your mobile device.
The software works with Thomson Reuters Authenticator to authenticate you on three levels:
  1. Something you know (your login and password)
  2. Something you have (your mobile device with the Thomson Reuters Authenticator app)
  3. Something you are (your fingerprint, if your device has Touch ID enabled)
Using multi-factor authentication makes it difficult for anyone else to use your login. Any would-be hacker must have your mobile device. If you enable fingerprint authentication, hacking becomes impossible.
