Federal tax elections overview

Federal tax elections are selections regarding tax treatment. Use the
Federal Tax Elections
folder to include an election in the return.
There's 3 methods available when using elections.
  • Predefined Elections:
    These are elections already included in the system.
  • Account Defined Elections:
    Set up and add these elections account-wide.
  • Preparer Defined Elections:
    Create and add these elections for the open return. 

Set up and add an account-defined tax election

Account defined elections are account-wide.
  1. Go to
    Organizer
    .
  2. Select
    Federal Tax Elections
    .
  3. Select
    Account-Defined Elections
    .

Set up and add a preparer-defined tax election

Preparer defined tax elections are custom elections you create within the open return.
To add a preparer-defined tax election:
  1. Go to
    Organizer
    .
  2. Select
    Federal Tax Elections
    .
  3. Select
    Preparer Defined Elections
    .
  4. Select
    Add new Preparer Defined Elections
    .

Add a predefined tax election

Predefined tax elections are the more common tax elections used across federal returns already included in the system.
To add a predefined tax election to the return:
  1. Go to
    Organizer
    .
  2. Select
    Federal Tax Elections
    .
  3. Select
    Predefined Elections
    .
