Alabama Privilege Tax print requirements

Taxpayers with a tax due of $100 or less are not required to file Alabama Privilege Tax Form CPT or PPT. When the tax due is $100 or less, any associated forms will not print or be eligible for e-filing. However, Form CPT or PPT will still print if a refund is requested, even if the tax due is $100 or less.
Limited Liability Entities taxed as Corporations for federal income tax purposes file Form CPT. S-corporations, limited liability entities, and disregarded entities file Form PPT. The program uses the
Return type
 in
General Information
Basic Return Information
 to determine what form to print.
To indicate a different type of entity for purposes of filing Form PPT or CPT, do the following.
  1. In
    Organizer
    , go to
    States
     then
    Alabama
    .
  2. Select
    Privilege tax
     then
    General information
    .
  3. In the
    Type of Taxpayer (select only one)
     section, make a selection.
If all required information is entered in the return, but Form CPT or PPT isn't printing, make sure it isn't suppressed:
  1. In
    Organizer
    , select
    States
     then
    Alabama
    .
  2. Select
    Return Options
     then
    Print Suppression
    .
  3. Make sure
    Business privilege tax return - CPT, PPT, BPT-IN
     is not selected.
You'll also want to make sure this isn't an initial return, as neither Form CPT nor PPT are filed on an initial return.
  1. In
    Organizer
    , select
    States
     then
    Alabama
    .
  2. Select
    Privilege tax
     then
    Tax Computation
    .
  3. In the
    Initial Return Calculation (BPT-IN)
     section, verify if
    Initial business privilege tax return
     is selected.
For consolidated returns, only Alabama Financial returns can file Form CPT:
  1. In
    Organizer
    , select
    States
     then
    State and City Activation
    .
  2. On the
    State and city activation
     grid, select the
    Financial return
     checkbox in column F on the Alabama row.
  3. Then go to the
    Alabama
    Privilege tax
     folder.
  4. Select
    Financial Institution Information
     screen.
  5. Select
    Check box if electing to file a consolidated Business Privilege Tax Return
    .
