Set up a project with the task ready flag set to yes only when work received

If the
Target Start date
on the 1st task in the project template is set to calculate based on
Before due date
, the
Ready flag
on the task is checked immediately upon addition or generation of the project. It's often preferable that the
Ready flag
on the 1st task not be checked until the paperwork is received from the client and the project can start and you can readily identify clients whose work has not yet been received.
To set up a project so the
Ready flag
on the 1st task isn't checked until the work is received, set the
Target Start date
on the 1st task in the project template to be based on
After received date
. It's recommended that the
Target Complete date
also be based on
After received date
.
If the
Target dates
on the project are set to be based on
After received date
, the target dates on the tasks will default to
After received date
.
When the project is added or the next occurrence is generated, the
Target Start
and
Complete dates
will initially be
None
. Then, when the work is received, the current date is entered into the
Received
field under
Actual dates
on the project, and the
Target Start and Complete dates
are then calculated. At this time, the
Ready flag
in the 1st task is checked informing the person assigned to the task that the work is received and the project can be started.
