When the next occurrence of a project generates, tasks contain target dates

When the next occurrence of a project is generated, one or more of the tasks contain target dates even though the template specifies that target dates are based on received date and a received date has not yet been entered.
When the next occurrence of a project is generated, the tasks look back to the tasks on the project template to determine the
Start
and
Complete Target
dates. If the template specifies that these dates are calculated to be n months and n days
After received date
, the target dates will be blank until a
Received date
is entered on the project, at which point the target dates on the project and tasks will be calculated.
However, if one or more tasks are added directly to a project after it was initially created from the project template, the added tasks are not tied to the template and do not know the parameters for calculating the target dates. So, the system assigns target dates to the added tasks based on what they were in the last project, in relation to that project's
Due date
, but adjusted for the
Due date
in the new occurrence.
If you do not want the target dates to be set on added tasks when the next occurrence of the project generates, do the following:
  1. Select
    Setup
    ,
    Templates
    , then
    Projects
    .
  2. Select the project, then
    Edit
    .
  3. Select Recurrence
  4. Clear
    Task Information
    and
    Budget information
    under Project Generation Options.
  5. Select
    OK
    .
  6. Select the
    Tasks
    tab.
  7. Add the tasks you added to the individual projects. Make sure to set the target date parameters to be consistent with the target dates on the project and other tasks.
  8. Select
    Enter
    to save the changes.
  9. Select
    Actions
    , then
    Manage Projects
    .
  10. Filter, sort, and group the screen to find the projects generated with tasks containing target dates.
  11. Select the projects, then right-click and select
    Delete Selected Projects
    .
  12. If the
    n months and n days before next occurrence
    generation option is selected on the template, the projects will automatically regenerate with no target dates on the tasks.
  13. If the
    When the current Schedule Item is complete
    generation option is selected on the template, you can regenerate the projects by selecting the previous projects, right-click and select
    Generate Next Project
    .
