What are identifier fields?

Identifier fields
are fields on a form that help identify the form issuer and/or receiver. These fields consist of SSN, entity/payer's name, EIN, and Account Number. Identifier fields vary for each form/document type.
Example:

In what scenarios are identifier fields relevant?

Proforma
In Review Wizard, identifier fields are used to match the document to the proforma from last year.
Links multi-page documents
Identifier fields are used to link together multi-page documents as a single form. For example, pages 1-13 are all linked based on identifier fields.
Bookmarks
Certain settings let you use identifier fields to index a document without capturing any information on the page.  When you bookmark a page, all information is discarded except for the identifier fields.
Bookmark Only
helps the user delete all references, except Primary and Secondary identifier fields.
Firms also have the option to set
verification rules
that automatically bookmark certain forms with or without identifier fields.
For single entity organizer pages (like Schedule C, Schedule E, Schedule F, Consolidated statements), you can also choose to bookmark the page and only capture identifier fields.
Identifier fields in the tax application
In TaxCaddy, firms can create a custom Document Request List (DRL) for their clients. For certain categories (Schedule C, Schedule E), the DRL also creates fillable forms as an alternative option for taxpayers to fill out instead of uploading a document.
Fillable Forms only appear if there is identifier field data associated with the entity in the tax application's proforma from the previous year (Payer's name, Ownership code T/S/J, Recipient's SSN).
Example: Schedule C (Business Income) for
TAMMY'S CRAFT SHOP
is in the tax application, however, if the required identifier fields are not available in the tax application then a fillable form won’t appear for the
TAMMY'S CRAFT SHOP
entity.
As a reference, you can download the Excel files available at the end of this article for your tax application.
