IND-158-01 e-file error

If 'EarnedIncomeCreditAmt' in the return has a non-zero value and Schedule EIC (Form 1040) is not present, then the Primary or Spouse must be at least 25 but less than 65 years old. (rule IND-158-01).
You'll get this error if you're claiming the Earned Income Credit (EIC), but the taxpayer and spouse are not aged 25 or over and less than 65.

Solution

  1. In
    Form view
    , go to Form 1040.
  2. Clear any overrides for the EIC.
  3. If there should be an amount for the EIC, complete the EIC screen to add the EIC Schedule to the return.
  4. Go to the
    General input
    folder.
  5. Select the
    1040
    screen.
  6. Check
    SSN
    and
    Date of birth
    for the Taxpayer and Spouse.
  7. If this information is wrong, correct it, then re-create and retransmit the return.
  8. If this information is correct, then the IRS has wrong information in their database. You will have to paper file the return with Form 8948. You can contact the IRS e-help desk at 866-255-0654 for more information.
