Database Validation Error: /Return/ReturnData/IRS1040/DependentDetail/DependentSSN: The Dependent SSN (or Qualifying Child Identifying Number on Form 1040-SS (PR)) has been locked because Social Security Administration records indicate the number belongs to a deceased individual. (value #########, rule IND-931-01)
note
The value represents the SSN of the dependent causing the rejection.
You'll get this error if the IRS database shows that the SSN for a dependent on the return is for a deceased individual. You can't file returns with a deceased dependent electronically. You'll need to file the return on paper.

Solution

  1. Go to the General folder.
  2. Select the
    1040
    screen.
  3. Open the
    Dependent Information
    statement window.
  4. Check the SSNs listed in the rejection.
  5. Correct any typos or incorrect information. Then recreate and retransmit the file.
  6. If the SSN is correct, you'll need to file the return on paper with Form 8948. You can contact the IRS e-help desk at 866.255.0654 for more information.
