R0000-533-02 e-file error

If a Dependent's Date of Death has a value in the e-File database, then it must not be prior to the Tax Year in the Return Header. (value #########, rule R0000-533-02)
note
The value represents the SSN of the dependent causing the rejection.
You'll get this error when the dependent's date of death happened in a prior tax year.

Solution

  1. Go to the 1040 screen in the General folder.
  2. Make sure that the SSN and name are correct in the
    Dependent information
    statement.
  3. Fix any incorrect information, then recreate and retransmit the return.
  4. If the information is correct and you need to claim the dependent, ask the taxpayer to contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 800.722.1213 to correct the date of death.
    note
It can take 2 weeks to correct the date of death and update the e-File database.
  5. After the IRS updates the database, recreate and retransmit the return.
  6. Instead of completing the previous steps, you can also file the return on paper with Form 8948.
