Enter an identity protection personal identification number (IP PIN)

Follow these steps to enter an identity protection personal identification number (IP PIN).
  1. Enter a 6-digit IP PIN in the
    Taxpayer
    and
    Spouse
    fields of the IDAuth screen in the Electronic Filing folder.
    note
    • Remove IP PINs from the IDAuth screen when filing extensions. Use IP PINs only on federal tax forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and 1040PR/SS per the IRS.
    • Use this IP PIN on your current tax return and any prior year returns filed during the calendar year.
  2. For dependents, enter the IP PIN in the
    Dependent Information
    statement in the IP PIN column of the 1040 screen in the General folder.
