Screen CAK1T - California Schedule K-1, Estates and Trusts (1040)

Overview

Use this screen to calculate Schedule CA. Amounts that appear in CAK1T Screen is automatically transferred from federal K1T Screen, K1T-2 Screen, or the state allocation spreadsheet. The data transferred depends on the residency status of the return and the method of federal data entry.
Resident returns
California State, if different amounts entered on federal K1T Screen transfer to the
Total Sources
fields if present. If there are no California State, if different amounts entered, the federal amounts transfer.
California Sources
fields are not applicable to a resident return.
Part-year resident and nonresident returns
When K1T data is entered without using the state allocation worksheet, California State, if different amounts transfer to the
Total Sources
and
California Sources
fields if present. Blank
State, if different
fields default to transferring the federal information to the
Total Sources
column. Blank

fields will also default to transferring the federal information to the

column only when the postal code of the activity is CA.
For K1T data that has been entered using the state allocation spreadsheet, amounts entered in the

Income and Directly Allocable Deductions

Total sources:
Information from federal data entry will transfer to this screen. Be sure to enter the amounts from Schedule K-1, Column D, Total amounts using California law in this column. Fields in this column are used to calculate Columns B and C on Schedule CA (540) and Columns B, C, and D on Schedule CA (540NR).
California sources:
Information that appears in the California sources column transfer to this screen from federal data entry. Be sure to enter amounts from Schedule K-1, Column E, California sources amounts and credits adjusted as necessary per state law. Fields in this column are used to calculate Column E on Schedule CA (540NR).

Grantor Trust income, Expenses, and Other Information

California does not allow the federal Section 1202 exclusion on capital gains. Furthermore, California no longer allows an exclusion under California section 18152.5. Amounts entered here are treated as long-term capital gains on California Schedules D(540) and D(540NR).
