Screen CAIRA - California Traditional and Roth IRA (1040)

Overview

Use this screen to complete the California versions of federal Form 8606, the California IRA Income Adjustment Worksheet, and the California Roth IRA Conversion Worksheet.

Traditional IRA

UltraTax CS uses the amounts entered in this section to calculate the difference between the federal and California taxable IRA income. The difference between the federal and California taxable IRA income is included on Schedule CA, located in the forms view in the CA540Adj folder.
Enter the traditional IRA basis to calculate the IRA income on Form 8606. This amount proformas from the prior year when Form 8606 was calculated for California.

Roth Conversions

UltraTax CS uses the amounts entered in this section to calculate the California Roth IRA Conversion Worksheet, located in forms view in the 8606 folder. The difference between the federal and California IRA deduction is included on Schedule CA, located in forms view in the CA540Adj folder. Information in this section does not transfer from federal data entry.

Pre 1987 IRA Basis Adjustment

UltraTax CS uses the amounts entered in this section to complete the California IRA Income Adjustment Worksheet, located in the IRA Adj folder, for differences between federal and California IRA basis prior to 1987. Information in this section does not transfer from federal data entry.
Use these fields to enter the original deduction claimed for IRA contributions and the amount of California basis recovered in prior years. These fields are used to calculate the California basis available for the current year using Part A of the California IRA Income Adjustment Worksheet.
Use these fields to enter the California basis available to recover during the current tax year. Data entry in this field is required only when the detail for calculating Part A of the California IRA Income Adjustment Worksheet is not entered.
Use these fields to enter detail of prior-year differences between federal and state IRA deductions allowed. UltraTax CS automatically proformas the information calculated in the prior-year application to these fields.

2010 Conversions to Roth IRA

Use this section to enter taxable amounts deferred to 2012 related to 2010 traditional IRA and qualified retirement plan conversions to Roth IRA. UltraTax CS uses the information in this section to calculate adjustments on Schedule CA (540) or Schedule CA (540NR).
Taxpayer and spouse amounts for 2010 traditional IRA conversion to Roth IRA taxable in 2012 under federal law transfer to this field from the federal IRA Screen. UltraTax CS uses this amount in conjunction with the
California Total
(Amount from 2010 traditional IRA conversion taxable in 2012) to determine the adjustment to include as an addition or subtraction to the Federal Amount of line 15, IRA distribution, on Schedule CA (540) or Schedule CA (540NR).
Enter the total amount of 2010 traditional IRA conversion to Roth IRA taxable in 2012 under California law. UltraTax CS uses this amount in conjunction with the
Federal Total
(Amount from 2010 traditional IRA conversion taxable in 2012) to determine the adjustment to include as an addition or subtraction to the Federal Amount of line 15, IRA distribution, on Schedule CA (540) or Schedule CA (540NR).
If this field is left blank, UltraTax CS assumes the amount deferred under California law is the same as the amount deferred under federal law and makes no adjustment on Schedule CA.
Enter the instate amount for 2010 traditional IRA conversion to Roth IRA taxable in 2012 under California law. UltraTax CS reports this amount in the California sources column of line 15, IRA distributions, on Schedule CA (540NR).
