Send an Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) request to the IRS

Follow these steps to send an electronic funds withdrawal (EFW) request to the IRS.
  1. Enter EFW information (such as bank accounts, payment amounts, and payment dates) into UltraTax CS. The data entry depends on what kind of payment you want to make.
  2. UltraTax CS includes whatever EFW information you entered in the e-file for the return or extension.
  3. Before creating and transmitting the e-file, view the filing instructions and review the EFW information.
    • If the instructions say to send a check, your EFW request isn't set up correctly or isn't acceptable for some reason. In that case, check your data entry to make sure you've entered all necessary information.
    • If you enter your EFW request correctly, the filing instructions will show that the IRS is authorized to withdraw the payment amount from the bank on a certain day. The instructions should include the correct payment amount, bank information, and payment date.
  4. The IRS gets the e-file, including the EFW information.
  5. If accepted, the IRS is responsible for withdrawing the payment according to the information included in the e-file. If rejected, the EFW won't happen.
