Check out clients in UltraTax CS

You can check out client data to avoid problems that result from multiple people accessing the same client data at the same time. For example, you can mark this box when you take a client's data home or to another office location. You can also check out client data if you're working on a consolidated client and you don't want others to make changes to the member returns. If anyone tries to open the client while you have the data checked out, they'll get a message stating that the data is currently checked out.
To check out client data, follow these steps.
  1. Select
    File
    then
    Backup
    .
  2. Select
    Clients
    from the dropdown.
  3. Select the client data that you'd like to check out, then select
    Select
    to move them to the other pane. If you're working on a consolidated client, make sure to select the consolidation as well as the parent, subsidiaries, and eliminations clients. Select
    OK
    to return to the
    Backup
    window.
  4. Verify that the backup location is correct.  If it's not, select
    Modify Backup Location
    , go to the location, then select
    OK
    to return to the
    Backup
    window.
  5. Mark the
    "Check out" selected clients
    checkbox to indicate that you're checking out the client's data.
  6. Select
    Check Out
    .
  7. Select
    Done
    when the check out process is complete.
To check the client back in, use 1 of the following options.
  • Restore the client from a backup. Use this option if you need to restore an updated version of the client.
  • Select
    Help
    ,
    Repair
    ,
    File Locks
    ,
    Checked out clients
    , select the client, then select
    Delete Lock
    . Use this option if you don't need to restore an updated version of the client.
