Add or modify searches in Data Mining

You can add a new search or edit a search that you've previously created.
  1. From the
    Print Selection and Client Search
    window in Data Mining, select
    Add/Modify Searches
    in the Client search/focus area.
  2. Select
    Add
    , or
    Edit
    a custom search you've previously created.
  3. Use
    Search name
    to enter or update (if necessary) the name for the search.
  4. To add a criterion that searches for whether a form is prepared in a client's return:
    1. Select
      federal
      or a state for the
      Product
      .
    2. Select
      Form
      .
    3. Select
      Not prepared
      if you want to search for clients whose returns don't include that form.
    4. Select the form, then
      Select
      .
  5. To add a criterion that searches for a specific calculated value in the client's federal or state return:
    1. Select
      federal
      or a state for the
      Product
      .
    2. Select
      Calculated value
      .
    3. Select the value in the list.
    4. Select
      Add/Modify
      if you need to add a criterion to the list or change the operator or value for the selected criterion.
    5. Double-click or use
      Select
      to add the criterion to the Selected criteria list.
  6. To add a criterion that searches for data from a federal or state input screen field:
    1. Select
      federal
      or a state for the
      Product
      .
    2. Select
      Input screen field
      .
    3. Select the field in the list.
    4. If you can't find the criterion you're looking for, select
      Add/Modify
      to add an input screen field to the list or change the operator or value for the selected criterion.
    5. If you'd like to add new field, select
      Add
      . Navigate the folders and input screens as you would in Input view to find and select a field. Once selected, use the
      Operator
      and
      Value in Field
      fields to enter your criteria. Then select
      Enter
      to save.
    6. With the item highlighted, select
      Done
      to add the criterion to the list.
    7. Double-click or use
      Select
      to move the criterion to the other side and add it to the list.
  7. To add a criterion that searches for a state return attached to a federal return:
    1. Select
      State
      for the
      Product
      .
    2. Select
      State attachment
      .
    3. Select
      Attached
      or
      Not attached
      .
    4. Double-click or use
      Select
      to add the selection to the Selected criteria list.
  8. To add a criterion that searches for data in a specific type of return:
    1. Select
      federal
      for the
      Product
      .
    2. Select the
      Return type
      .
    3. Select the return type in the list.
    4. Use
      Select
      to add the criterion to the Selected criteria list.
  9. To add a criterion that searches for clients with a specific status:
    1. Select
      federal
      for the
      Product
      .
    2. Select
      Client status
      .
    3. Select
      Logged anytime
      ,
      Current status
      , or
      Not logged
      to show the status type.
    4. Select a status event, then use
      Select
      to add the criterion to the Selected criteria list.
    5. Select
      Add / Modify
      to make changes.
  10. To change relationships for the selected search criteria:
    1. Select
      Edit Formula
      in the Selected Criteria group.
    2. Select a search criterion and drag it to the AND or OR column.
  11. When you're finished, select
    Done
    to return to the
    Select Search Criteria
    window.
  12. Select
    Done
    to close the
    Select Search Criteria
    window.
  13. To link the search with a specific report or letter on the
    Print Selection and Client Search
    screen, select a recommended report or letter on the
    Add/Modify Searches
    .
  14. Select
    Done
    to close the
    Add/Modify Searches
    window.
