Build Data Mining searches

  1. Before building a search, decide what information you want to search for and which search criteria are most relevant to the clients you want to find.
  2. Select search criteria to build a new search or to change an existing custom search.
  3. Edit the search formula to combine the selected criteria into logical relationships.
Example — 1 criterion — search for all 1040 clients for whom a Schedule C was prepared
  1. Select
    1040 Individual
    from the
    Client database
    dropdown list.
  2. Select
    Continue (Step 2)
    , then select a report or letter from the Print selection group.
  3. Select
    Add/Modify Searches

  4. Select
    Add
    to add a new search, or
    Edit
    .
  5. Add or change the
    Search name
    .
  6. In the
    Select Search Criteria
    window, select the
    Form
    and verify that
    Prepared
    is selected.
  7. Select
    Schedule C [Prepared]

    button.
  8. Select
    Done
    .
Result: The Data Mining results include all clients for whom Schedule C was prepared.
Example 2 — Multiple criteria — search for clients with AGI greater than $50,00 and employer name containing “Bowman”
  1. Before building this search, you'll need to define criteria for fields without field views and define calculated values criteria.
