Editing Data Mining search criteria

When to edit search criteria

After you've entered the name of a new search or selected an existing custom search to edit, you can edit the search criteria. You do this by specifying data relevant to the search of the client database selected from the
Data Mining
 window.
Once you have search criteria, you can select and combine them in logical combinations called search formulas.
Clients pass a search when their data meets the search criteria and search formula you have defined.
When you know the type of clients you're searching for and what criteria those clients have in common, define the search criteria that are most relevant to the clients you want to find.

Search criteria types

You can define the following types of search criteria used in Data Mining searches.
  • Forms criteria
    : Forms associated with client returns. Data Mining can search for clients for whom a specific form or schedule was or was not prepared. You don't edit forms criteria, but select them when you build a search.
  • Calculated values criteria
    : Values such as amounts or dates are calculated by UltraTax CS. For any calculated value listed in the
    Add/Modify Search Criteria
     window, you can specify a number or range that Data Mining uses in a search.
  • Input screen field criteria
    : Data entered in an input screen or statement field. You can define the acceptable data entries that Data Mining uses in a search for any input screen or statement field. Then you add them to the Available criteria list in the
    Add/Modify Search Criteria
     window.
  • State Attachment criteria
    : Data Mining can search for clients for whom a specific state return is attached or not attached. This is only available when a state is selected from the
    Product
     dropdown list.
  • Return type criteria
    : Return types associated with client returns. Data Mining can search for clients for whom a specific return type was prepared. This is only available when
    Federal
     is selected from the
    Product
     dropdown list.
  • Client status criteria
    : Client status events associated with client returns. Data Mining can search for clients for whom a specific status event was logged, or not logged. It's only available when
    Federal
     is selected from the
    Product
     dropdown list.
