Resolve Federal Asset Report not printing

When printing or previewing a client's return in UltraTax CS, sometimes the Federal Asset Report doesn't print. If this happens when you're printing a client's prior-year tax return, you might need to rename or delete the current year's depreciation files.
  • If the firm licenses Fixed Assets CS, you can print the Tax Asset Detail report in the corresponding processing period in Fixed Assets CS.
  • If the firm licenses FileCabinet CS, the Federal Asset Report will be in the client's drawer if the tax return was printed to FileCabinet CS.
note
The Federal Asset Report isn't available in consolidated clients. This report is available in each of the consolidated group member clients.
Internal use only
This issue occurs inconsistently among UltraTax CS clients. In other words, it happens for some clients while not for others. Development hasn't been able to determine why the Federal Asset Report doesn't print in certain cases. Typically, our customers have this problem when trying to print the report for a prior-year's tax return.
  1. Make a copy of the client's data. Select
    File
    ,
    Save As
    .
  2. Be sure the original client in UltraTax CS is closed.
  3. In Windows, go to
    X:\WinCSI\DeprData
. X is the drive letter where the data is stored.
  4. Double-click the client's folder.
  5. Find the following year of depreciation files for this client. For example, for a prior-year client's return locate the next year's depreciation files that contain the following format: DXXXXXGN.L
  6. If you don't have assets in the next year for the client, delete or rename these files.
  7. Reopen the client in UltraTax CS and print the Federal Asset Report, then close the client.
  8. Rename the files back to their original names.
If you still can't print the Federal Asset Report after following these steps, it's possible this client's data or its depreciation files are corrupt.
