Repair and delete locks

Only one person can open a client file in one year of UltraTax CS. Additionally, only one person can open the proforma window at a time. If you try to open a client or proforma window when someone else already has it open, you'll get an error.
If you get a message stating that another user is accessing the system, a client, proforma, or data mining, and no one actually is, do the following steps to clear locks in UltraTax CS.
  1. Select
    Help
    , then
    Repair
    .
  2. Go to the
    File Locks
    tab.
  3. Depending on the type of lock you need to clear, select either
    Client locks
    ,
    User locks
    , or
    Screen locks
    .
  4. If you notice a lock in any of these windows, refer to the
    User ID
    column to verify who has it open. If they don't actually have it open on their computer, select the item and select
    Delete Lock
    .
  5. When prompted, select
    Yes
    to delete the lock.
  6. Select
    Done
    to exit the Repair window. You can now open the system, client, proforma, or data mining tool.

Additional troubleshooting

If the steps above didn't work, or you don't see the lock, you may need to manually delete the locks in the system files.
