Branch and office share licensing

Additional licensing is required if you have multiple offices using UltraTax CS. The way you set up the licenses will depend on how you have your offices configured.
UltraTax CS offers two multi-office license configurations: Branch (multi-office) and Office share. Branch (Multi-Office) is for firms that use UltraTax CS at multiple branch locations. Office Share is for firms operating as independent businesses but sharing one installation of UltraTax CS. After you install UltraTax CS, how you configure the licenses will depend on whether your firm utilizes Branch (Multi-Office) or Office Share licensing.

Branch (Multi-Office)

When you have Branch (Multi-Office) licensing, you only need to use CS Connect once to retrieve licenses. This will download all branch licenses. However, you'll need to determine which firm is the Main or Primary firm. You'll use this firm's information (Firm ID and PIN) to download licenses. If you don't know what branch is your main firm, email cs.service@thomsonreuters.com or call 800-968-0600, option 2.
When installing licenses, use the main Firm ID and PIN. You'll have the option to install licenses when installing UltraTax CS. Otherwise, open UltraTax CS and go to
Help > About UltraTax CS
 and select
Download Licenses
. Once you've installed the licenses, all branch licenses will be available in UltraTax CS.
When you process tax returns, UltraTax CS determines what branch license to use by the preparer that's assigned to the client. You'll want to make sure each preparer has a firm associated with them.

Office Share

When you have Office Share licensing, you need to install each license in the office share separately. You'll need the Firm ID and PIN for each member in the office share.
You'll have the option to install licenses when installing UltraTax CS. Otherwise, open UltraTax CS and go to
Help > About UltraTax CS
 and select
Download Licenses
. Enter one member's Firm ID and PIN. Once you've installed the licenses, repeat these steps for each office share member.
When you process tax returns, UltraTax CS determines what branch license to use by the preparer that's assigned to the client. You'll want to make sure each preparer has a firm associated with them.
