Scannable forms for North Carolina 1120 or 1065

North Carolina's requirements for the approval on substitute tax forms states that software developers need to inform their customers of the following departmental requirements.
  • Printer:
Tax forms need to be printed with laser or ink jet printers using single-sheet fed paper. Documents printed on a pin-feed printer are unacceptable.
  • Paper weight and size:
The forms need to be printed on 20-pound, unlined, 8.5" x 11" white-bond paper.
  • Font:
Taxpayer data needs to be printed in capital letters using Courier 12-point font (10 cpi). Note that UltraTax CS does this automatically.
  • Ink:
Tax forms need to be printed using black, non-magnetic, nonreflective ink/toner. Dropout ink color isn't accepted.
  • Punctuation:
Taxpayer data needs to be entered appropriately as per the North Carolina Forms Specifications. Address and city information on the returns may not include periods (.) or commas (,). All post office boxes and rural routes should be abbreviated. Acceptable abbreviations are “PO Box” and “RR.” To ensure the information prints properly in the scannable area of the forms, enter text in the federal screen as indicated in the following table.
