New / Modify/View Print-Ifs dialog

  • Use the
    New Print-If dialog
    to define a new print condition that compares variables (such as AGI) to amounts or other variables. To open this dialog, select the New button in the Print If dialog.
  • Use the
    Modify/View Print-Ifs dialog
    to modify print conditions that you have added or to view existing print conditions. (You cannot modify the print conditions provided with the application.) To open this dialog, highlight an existing print condition in the Print if dialog, then select the Modify/View button.

Fields & buttons

  • For existing print conditions:
    The name of the print condition selected in the Print If dialog is automatically selected. If you created this print condition, you can enter a new name here. To view a different print condition, select it from the drop-down list.
  • For new print conditions:
    Enter the name of the print condition.
  • For existing print conditions:
    These fields display the comparisons between variables (such as AGI) and amounts that are used in this print condition. If you created this print condition, you can use these fields to modify the relationships.
  • For new print conditions:
    Use these fields to set up a print condition that compares a variable (such as AGI) to an amount.
Example:
You could set up a condition whereby the selected paragraph would print only if the AGI was greater than $100,000. That is, the paragraph will print only if the condition is
true
.
In the
If
field, select a variable from the drop-down list. Then, select a conditional operator (such as less than, greater than, or equal to) from the next drop-down list. Finally, enter an amount. You can use the two
and
fields if you want the print if paragraph to meet one or two additional conditions.
  • For existing print conditions:
    These fields display the comparisons between one variable (such as total amount of estimated tax) and another that are used in this print condition. If you created this print condition, you can use these fields to modify the relationships.
  • For new print conditions:
    Use these fields to set up a print condition that compares a variable (such as total amount of estimated tax) to another variable.
Example:
You could set up a condition whereby the selected paragraph would print only if total estimated tax is less than or equal to the amount of overpayment to be credited.
In the
If
field, select a variable from the drop-down list. Then, select a conditional operator (such as less than, greater than, or equal to) from the next drop-down list. Finally, select another variable from the drop-down list. You can use the two
and
fields if you want the print if paragraph to meet one or two additional conditions.
In the New Print-If dialog, use this field to set up a print condition based on electronic filing criteria set in the
EFT options used in filing instructions
fields in the client's Letter Screen.
  • This field is available only if you are editing documents for an 1120 or 990 client.
  • In the Modify/View Print Ifs dialog for 1120 or 990 clients, this field displays the electronic funds transfer print if statement assigned to the selected text, if applicable. Note that for predefined print if statements, you cannot change the assignment in this field.
Return
  • For existing print conditions:
    The
    Return
    field displays a return type if this print condition applies only to a specific type of return. If you created this print condition, you can change the selection in this field.
  • For new print conditions:
    To restrict this print condition to a specific type of return, make a selection from the drop-down list.
Entity
  • For existing print conditions:
    The
    Entity
    field displays an entity type if this print condition applies only to a specific type of entity. If you created this print condition, you can change the selection in this field.
  • For new print conditions:
    To restrict this print condition to a specific entity type, make a selection from the drop-down list.
Editing slipsheets
If you plan to use the current print if statement for text that will print in the return address area of vertically aligned slipsheets or offset slipsheets, you must make a selection in this field.
  • For a slipsheet on which the return address is vertically aligned with the destination address, choose
    Vertical Slipsheet
    from the drop-down list.
  • For a slipsheet on which the return address is offset to the upper left corner, choose
    Offset Slipsheet
    from the drop-down list.
  • For a slipsheet on which the return address and destination address are positioned for bulk mailing, choose
    Bulk Slipsheet
    from the drop-down list.
Editing filing instructions
If you plan to use the current print if statement for custom paragraphs that will print in both filing instructions that are printed
separately
and in
combined
filing instructions, you need to make a selection in this field. (Note that if you will
not
be using the current print if statement in both types of filing instructions, you can leave this field blank.)
  • For the
    separate
    filing instructions' print if statement, select
    Not Combined Instructions
    from the drop-down list.
  • For the
    combined
    filing instructions' print if statement, select
    Combined Instructions
    from the drop-down list.
  • For pre-defined print conditions included with UltraTax CS:
    Select this button to view the ToolTip that appears when you pause your mouse pointer over a print if statement in the Document Editing window. Note that you cannot change the ToolTip.
  • For user-defined print conditions:
    Click this button to enter a ToolTip for the current print if statement. The ToolTip will appear when you pause your mouse over the current print if statement in the Document Editing window.
