Use this dialog to transfer information between tax returns for Form 8962, Form 8965, the Health Care: Individual Responsibility Worksheet, and for Form 8615 (kiddie tax) reporting.&
Open this button by choosing Utilities then Family Transfer Utility.&
Fields & buttons
Search
Use the search field to search by client ID or name. If you select Client ID or Name column header in the list pane, you can enter the first few characters of the client ID or client name in this field to search for a particular client.
Client list
This pane lists all clients who meet the criteria designated in the Focus group box. To move children or dependents from one return to another, select the desired parent return and select the Select Parent button. Then, highlight the client return containing the desired dependents and select the Select Child/Dependent button. Note that only one group of dependents can be transferred at a time.&
To sort the client list by client ID or name, select the word appropriate column heading in the title bar of the list pane.
Select Parent button
Select this button to designate the highlighted client's return as the parent to which the selected dependents will be assigned. After you select the parent by choosing this button, highlight the client's return that contains the desired dependents and select the Select Child/Dependent button to assign the dependents to the selected parent. To undo the selection, highlight the selected parent return in the right pane and select Remove.
Select Child/Dependent button
Select this button to assign the dependents from the highlighted client's return to the parent tax return that you previously selected by selecting the Select Parent button. (The selected parent return is displayed in the Clients selected pane on the right.) To undo the selection, highlight the selected dependent in the right pane and select Remove.
Focus group box
Preparer/reviewer/staff
Select a preparer, reviewer, or staff member from the drop-down list to limit the list to clients whose returns were assigned to a specific person.
Transfer type group box
Dependent modified adjusted gross income
Mark this checkbox to transfer Dependent modified adjusted gross income information between returns. Data will transfer as follows.
Dependent information transfers to the parent or claiming taxpayer's client return in the Dependent's modified AGI statement dialog on Screen Coverage (Health Care folder).
No calculated data transfers to the dependent's return.
Client IDs and Transfer Type information transfers to Screen Family in the General folder for each return involved in the transfer.
Kiddie tax (Form 8615)
Mark this checkbox to transfer data needed to calculate Form 8615, Tax for Certain Children Who Have Unearned Income. UltraTax CS will transfer relevant data as follows.
Parent information transfers to each child's Screen 8615 (Taxes folder).
Child information transfers to each child's Screen 8615Sib (Taxes folder).
No data transfers to the parent's return.
When the transfer has been completed, the Family Transfer Utility Status will summarize the client IDs, return type, and transfer type.
Client IDs and Transfer Type information transfers to Screen Family in the General folder for each return involved in the transfer.
Other fields and buttons
Preview button
Select this button to preview the Family Transfer Utility Report before you transfer the data. Previewing the report does not transfer the data, so UltraTax CS will prompt you to complete or undo the transfer when you close the preview.
If you need to change a return after a transfer, you can select the client designated as the parent or claiming taxpayer, then select the Undo button.
Print button
Select this button to print the Family Transfer Utility Report. You can print the report to a printer or store it in FileCabinet CS (if licensed). The Family Transfer Utility Report will print with the return.
Transfer button
Select this button to transfer the data between the selected clients' tax returns. UltraTax CS prompts you to confirm the transfer before proceeding. Once the transfer is complete,& you can update the data by running the utility again or by manually editing the transferred data on each return's input screens. The Family Transfer Utility Report will help you locate the data to update or remove.
Undo button
Select this button to reverse a transfer of information from one client's return to another that you previously completed via the Family Transfer Utility dialog. To remove all child/dependent returns from one parent return, select the parent return on this dialog and select the Undo button. To undo the transfer of information from specific dependent/child returns while retaining others, select the parent return, highlight the dependent returns whose transferred data you wish to retain, then select the Remove button. Then, select Undo to reverse the transfer of information from the remaining child/dependent return.
