Use this dialog to either create or update column mappings, to edit spreadsheet data before importing, and to prevent spreadsheet rows from being imported. Mapping columns establishes a link between the spreadsheet columns and the UltraTax CS statement dialog columns so that the data transfers to the appropriate location in the statement.
The data from Excel (or the Windows Clipboard) appears in a grid in this dialog. Each column in the Import Spreadsheet grid has a drop-down list at the top that is used to map that column. From each drop-down list, select the UltraTax CS statement dialog column that corresponds with the data in that spreadsheet column.
For important information on importing spreadsheet data into UltraTax CS statement dialogs, see Importing Statement Data from Excel. The overview provides a general outline of the import process and links to specific procedures detailing each step.
To open this dialog, choose Statement then Import Spreadsheet from within any UltraTax CS statement dialog.

If you are importing from an Excel file, this field displays the file name and location of the spreadsheet that you specified in the

field in the Import Spreadsheet - Step 1 of 2 dialog.
If you are importing from the Windows Clipboard, this field displays "Windows Clipboard" as the data source.

column
, leave the drop-down list at the top of the column blank. This prevents the grid column from being mapped to a statement dialog column, so any data in that grid column will be ignored during the import.
Header rows
Each column in the Import Spreadsheet grid has a drop-down list at the top that is used to map that column. From each drop-down list, select the UltraTax CS statement dialog column that corresponds with the data in that spreadsheet column.
Once a column is mapped, the second header row will display the name of the statement dialog column that you specified using the drop-down list, indicating that the grid column has been mapped to that statement dialog column.
note
If a mapped column contains data that is not appropriate for the statement dialog column you specified, UltraTax CS will display a red border around the cells that contain the invalid data. If you do not correct this data in the Import Spreadsheet grid, you will be prompted to correct it when you verify the imported information and complete the import process.
You cannot select a statement dialog column that is calculated by UltraTax CS. For example, the Gain/Loss column in the statement dialog for Schedule D in the B&D Screen in UltraTax/1040 cannot be mapped because UltraTax CS automatically calculates this column. If you import cost/basis and sale price, UltraTax CS will automatically calculate the gain or loss in the Gain/Loss statement dialog column.
