Tax Subject Index dialog

Use this window to access the Tax Subject Index, which you can use to quickly open the input screen section in which you should enter specific data.
To open this window, enter text in the
Find input for
 box on the UltraTax CS toolbar, select the Tax Subject Index, or select Tax Subject Index from the Help menu. (Note that a client's return will need to be open before you can access the Tax Subject Index.)

Fields and buttons

  • Select
    Tax Subjects
     if you want to search on entries such as "wages" or "interest income."
  • Select
    Forms
     to limit the list to specific forms.
  • Select
    Web Form Instructions
    to limit the list to form instructions on the IRS or state taxing authority's website.
    After selecting
    Web Form Instructions
    , enter the subject, form, or input screen you want to find (or scroll through the list), select the item, and select Go To.
  • For
    Tax Subjects
     or
    Forms:
     UltraTax CS automatically opens the input screen and places the cursor in the section in which the data should be entered.
  • For
    Web Form Instructions:
     UltraTax CS automatically opens your web browser and displays the IRS or state agency instructions for the selected form.
  • Search box:
     This box is available only when
    Tax Subjects
     is selected. Use this box to enter one or more keywords such as "wages" or "interest income," then select Find to start searching the list of tax subjects.
  • Find button:
     Select Find to start or stop a search using the keyword(s) entered in the adjacent search box. This is available only when
    Tax Subjects
     is selected. After you select Find to commence a search, it changes to the Stop Find button. Select Stop Find at any time to halt the search process.
  • Tax Subjects / Forms / Instructions list:
     Depending on the option selected, UltraTax CS lists the tax subjects, forms, input screens, or form instructions pertaining to the open client here. After selecting the option, type the subject, form, or input screen you want to find (or scroll through the list), select the item, then select Go To.
  • For Tax Subjects or Forms:
     UltraTax CS automatically opens the input screen and places the cursor in the section in which the data should be entered.
  • For Web Form Instructions:
     UltraTax CS automatically opens your web browser and displays the IRS or state agency instructions for the selected form.
Select this to view Frequently Asked Questions specific to the entity of the client that is currently open in UltraTax CS.
