Thomson Reuters 2024 Summer Internship Program: From Learning to Leading

At Thomson Reuters, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of talent through our campus program. Our internship initiative is central to this commitment, providing students with opportunities to kickstart their careers. This summer, we welcomed 86 interns across North America, integrating new talent into various business functions. Dive into our latest Inside Thomson Reuters blog to discover how our interns spent their summer and the impact they made.

Our Executive Speaker Series

Interns had numerous opportunities to connect with industry-leading professionals at Thomson Reuters through our Executive Speaker Series hosted by our North America Campus team.

On June 20th, David Wong, our Chief Product Officer, kicked off the executive speaker series by sharing insights on our strategic product roadmap and the role of generative AI in technology’s future. Interns gained valuable perspectives on how Thomson Reuters is at the forefront of AI innovation.

On National Intern Day, Steve Hasker, our President and CEO, discussed his leadership journey and emphasized the interns’ crucial role in driving company innovation. This session offered interns a unique opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with our CEO.

Norie Campbell, our Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary, shared her extensive legal industry experience and insights on generative AI’s impact on our legal products. The discussion highlighted opportunities for innovation in legal tech.

Our final session featured Mary Alice Vuicic, our Chief People Officer. She shared her career journey and offered guidance for interns entering today’s tech-driven workplace. Mary Alice also emphasized the importance of continuous learning and skill development to accelerate careers.

  • Sweta Patel, a Talent Development Solutions Lead, discussed the future of work at Thomson Reuters, covering flexible work models, AI, and our skills-first talent approach. Sweta showcased ways that Thomson Reuters is helping employees augment and automate tasks to use their time towards the highest value work.
  • Jacob Pleet, our Employer Branding Lead, spent an hour with the interns providing an overview of personal branding and LinkedIn. He shared steps for defining a unique personal brand and practical tips for creating a LinkedIn profile that will stand out.

Connection and community impact

Our interns had a busy summer packed with engaging activities. The summer kicked off with a lively Thomson Reuters trivia event, where interns learned about the company’s history and current events. We sent interns to major league baseball games in Toronto, Ann Arbor, and Minneapolis-St Paul, cheering on the Blue Jays, Tigers, and Twins. They also gave back to the community by volunteering at Good Shepherd Ministries, preparing and serving meals to those in need in Toronto, and coloring books to be used in Busy Bags by the Child Life Specialist Team at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children at our Frisco office. To wrap up a successful summer, we celebrated National Intern Day across our sites with an intern lunch, allowing everyone to share their experiences and build connections across departments.

Hear from our interns

  • “Working directly with Practical Law resources has not only developed my legal writing skills but also improved my ability to produce accurate citations. At the same time, I’m gaining a deep understanding of the complex legal issues that our Practical Law resources cover. Outside of my day-to-day work, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved with several of the pro bono causes that Thomson Reuters supports.” – Amanda, Practical Law Legal Intern
  • “Working on the ONESOURCE Tax provision platform has been particularly rewarding, offering me numerous learning opportunities and a sense of achievement when I see my contributions reflected in the deployed software. What stands out most about my experience so far is the willingness of everyone at Thomson Reuters —whether it’s another intern, a team member, or a manager—to offer support and answer questions.” – Vedant, Software Engineer Intern, ONESOURCE
  • “Working at Thomson Reuters has been transformative. As a communications intern, I was exposed to media relations and campaign efforts, gaining hands-on experience that set a strong foundation for my future career.” – Stephanie, Communications Intern

We’re grateful for the hard work and fresh ideas our interns contributed this summer. We wish them all the best in their future careers and are excited to welcome many back to Thomson Reuters once they complete their studies. Are you interested in 2025 internship opportunities?
