Reuters to Roll Out Reuters Live Online (RLO) Streaming Video Coverage of News and Events
NEW YORK – Today Reuters, the world’s largest multimedia news provider, announced the rollout of Reuters Live Online (RLO), a product for online publishers that provides fully licensable access to live video coverage of breaking news and scheduled events. Featuring news gathered by the global team of 2,700 Reuters journalists in over 200 locations, RLO is a new service that replaces the Reuters Live Stream product and offers industry leading innovations.
RLO's unique package of features includes the ability to provide multiple live feeds. At launch, RLO will be able to stream as many as three live events simultaneously to be viewed on any web-enhanced device, with adaptive bitrate streaming ensuring smooth delivery regardless of the speed of the available internet connection. This means that breaking news will not disrupt planned events and viewers can decide for themselves which event to watch. RLO’s technology gives it the capability to offer even more simultaneous streams in the future.
"With a choice of delivery options, RLO is the most flexible online video solution for any customer, regardless of size," said Steven Schwartz, global managing director, Reuters News Agency. "Clients with smaller budgets and fewer resources can select the ease and simplicity of the hosted solution, where Reuters delivers the video player to the end user and supplies our customers with viewer analytics. Larger customers with more resources and experience with video can opt for the customizable non-hosted solution, where Reuters will send the video stream to the customer to be integrated into their usual workflow."
In addition, RLO is the only major online video service to offer a detailed editorial calendar of scheduled events, monitoring tools that provide real time and historical analytics that enable publishers to make coverage choices based on thematic or geographic popularity of previous events, and the fastest initial set up time, taking minutes instead of days to complete.
All customers currently on Reuters Live Stream will be migrated to RLO at no incremental cost for the duration of their contract.
