Yuen Yuen Ang and Tim Gardam named to Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company Board of Directors
TORONTO, August 22, 2024 – The Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company announced today the addition of Yuen Yuen Ang and Tim Gardam to its Board of Directors. Ang and Gardam joined the board in late 2023 and early 2024, respectively.
The Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company acts as a guardian of the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles. Established in 1941, the Trust Principles include the all-important preservation of independence, integrity and freedom from bias in the gathering and dissemination of information and news.

Yuen Yuen Ang is the Alfred Chandler Chair Professor of Political Economy at Johns Hopkins University, where she is based in Washington, D.C. A globally known expert on China's political economy and its relations with the U.S. and the world, Ang has received numerous accolades for her scholarship and public engagement, including being named by Apolitical as one of world’s “100 Most Influential Academics in Government.” Her two award-winning books, How China Escaped the Poverty Trap and China’s Gilded Age, chronicle China's rise from poverty to imbalanced, risky growth. Ang’s multicultural background as a Singapore native, a U.S.-based professor, and a China expert motivates her to communicate with diverse audiences in humanizing ways. Media outlets have profiled Ang in America, China, Europe, and worldwide. The Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) recently released a video lecture series on her scholarship, “The Economics of China.”
Tim Gardam is Chief Executive Officer of Nuffield Foundation, a charitable trust established in 1943 by William Morris that aims to improve social well-being by funding research and innovation projects in education and social policy. He also serves on the board of Wessex Water Plc and previously spent 25 years working in British media, including Channel Four, Channel 5 and BBC, as well as serving as the chair of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford. He received a BA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge.
