Troubleshoot desktop setup loop

If
Fixed Assets CS
still warns that you need to perform a desktop setup after following the prompts to run the desktop setup, try each of the following to resolve the issue. After each step, try to open the program.

Run the desktop setup as administrator

  1. Go to the following location:
    WinCSI\DSW\Desktop
  2. Right-click
    Setup.exe
    and select
    Run as administrator
    .

Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++

  1. Find the version of C++ that the CS program you are having trouble with uses.
  2. Uninstall the version of C++ that you found in step 1. Contact your IT professional for assistance; C++ is a Microsoft component outside of the CS Professional Suite.
  3. Go to the following location:
    WinCSI\DSW\Desktop\vcredist_x86
  4. Open the folder for the version of C++ you uninstalled. You need to repeat this step for each version of C++ affected.
  5. Double-click
    vcredist_x86.exe
    .
  6. Select
    Install
    .

Update Microsoft Windows OS

Make sure that Windows is up-to-date and install any missing updates. Follow Microsoft's instructions on how to keep your Windows computer up-to-date.

Check the registry key

Make sure the registry entry is entered. Go to the workstation that is working and export the registry key. Then import the key in the workstation that's not working.
(\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Creative Solutions\Fixed Assets CS\[current key]

Install the English Windows language pack

Contact your IT professional to make sure that the English Windows language pack is properly installed.

Rename the
Prereqchk.dll
file in the
Desktop
folder

  1. Go to the following location:
    WinCSI\DSW\Desktop
  2. Right-click
    Prereqchk.dll
    and select
    Rename
    .
  3. Add
    .old
    to the file name.
