Choose Organizer package for 1040 clients

You have the option to choose a Checklist only, Classic, Lite, or Lite with Classic pages.
Go to
Setup
1040 Individual
Organizer
Modify
to select the default Organizer package for your clients. You can also override the global options on a client-by-client basis in the
Client Organizer Options
section of the
Contact
screen, which is in the General folder. The following explains each option.

Classic Client Organizer

The Classic Client Organizer is the largest, most detailed package. Review Classic Organizer package to get the details of what's included in this package. If you select this option, a Classic Organizer will print for every 1040 client. It will review the client data and only print the Classic Organizer pages that pertain to the client.

Client Organizer Checklist

The Checklist is a brief summary of everything that proforma'd from last year. It's meant for your client to review, confirm it's still valid for this year, and gather the supporting tax documents for you. None of the Classic or Lite Organizer pages are in it. If you choose this option, every 1040 client will get:
  • The mailing slipsheets or the email greeting
  • The cover letter
  • The questionnaire
  • The checklist

Lite Client Organizer pages for clients who meet Lite criteria

The Lite Organizer is a simplified version of the Classic Organizer. It only includes space to enter the more common tax situations, like salary or retirement income, and higher education deductions and credits. Lite Organizers also only have a certain amount of room to print things like dependents or W-2 forms. Review Lite Organizer package to get the details of what's included
The Lite client organizer is limited to a "Number of printable items". If there isn't enough space on the Lite pages for your client's data, UltraTax CS will switch the client to a Classic Organizer Package. For example if your client has more than 5 W-2 forms, it will switch to print a Classic Organizer package.
If you want to ignore the "Number of printable items" and always print a Lite Organizer, regardless of client data, select the option to
Force Lite pages even when client does not meet Lite criteria
. This won't affect any of the data inside of the return, it will just exclude the "extra" items that couldn't fit on the page.
Additionally, the Lite Organizer pages don't have a place for more complex items. If you select this option for a client that has other items not covered in the Lite pages, your client will have to provide you that information another way, outside of the Organizer. Again, it won't affect any of the data inside of the return, it will just exclude that information in the package.

Lite Client Organizer pages plus other pages in classic format

This is a hybrid option that's beneficial if your client qualifies for the Lite version but has additional tax situations that would require Classic pages. For example, a client has less than 4 dependents, less than 5 W-2s, but a Schedule C business.
If you choose this option it will print the Lite organizer pages (as long as the client meets the "Number of printable items"), and any Classic Organizer pages for items not covered in the Lite package.
The "Number of printable items" conditions and "Force Lite pages" option applies here as well. Unless you have
Force Lite pages even when client does not meet Lite criteria
marked, UltraTax CS will review the client data to make sure there is enough room for the items covered on the Lite pages. If your client exceeds the number of items, it will print a Classic Organizer (which by default will already include the additional Classic pages it would've included with the Lite package).
